ArmInfo. The criminal case materials against the brother and nephew of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II have been sent to court, the Prosecutor General's Office reports.
It is noted that on November 17, 2025, the prosecutor submitted to the court the materials of the criminal case against G.N. and A.N. (the brother and nephew of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II - Gevorg and Hambardzum Nersisyan - ed.), who obstructed the pre-planned election campaign of representatives of the Republic party participating in the local government elections of the enlarged Vagharshapat community in the Armavir region on November 16, 2025.
At around 2:00 PM, A.N., a resident of Grigor Lusavorich Street in the village of Voskehat, met G.Kh. near his home and learned that he was conducting pre-election campaigning, distributing campaign printed materials about the Republic Party. A.N. also learned that the candidate from the aforementioned party, Kh.M. A.N., intending to disrupt the campaign, used obscene language, demanding that G.Kh. leave, noting that the Republic Party candidate, H.M., would not be entering the village of Voskehat.
At this time, A.N.'s father, G.N., overheard the conversation between G.Kh. and his son, approached them, and began shouting curses and obscene language at G.Kh., also demanding that he leave.
Not wanting to argue with A.N. and G.N., G.Kh. stopped campaigning and returned to the area where the campaign posters were being posted.
A.N. and G.N. then drove in their cars to the meeting between the Republic Party representatives and residents. G.N., after exiting the car, spoke with people waiting to meet with the Republic Party candidate, after which the individuals left.
On November 2, 2025, the prosecutor opened a criminal case against A.N. and G.N. under Article 211, Part 2, Clause 5 of the Russian Criminal Code (obstructing a group of persons from carrying out propaganda activities). G.N. and A.N. were remanded in custody," the statement reads.
On the evening of November 2, lawyer Ara Zohrabyan reported that the Nersisyans, father and son, had been detained on charges of hooliganism and obstructing election campaigning. Meanwhile, video footage from the scene shows that no hooliganism, much less obstruction of campaigning, took place.
