ArmInfo. At the Nov. 17 meeting of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) of the Republic of Armenia, discussions continued on the issue of revoking Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC's electricity transmission license.
Frequent power outages were one of the reasons cited for the review. In this regard, David Kazinyan, the company's former CEO, who spoke at the meeting, raised the issue of yesterday's power outages in the enlarged community of Vagharshapat. He noted ironically that if he were the company's director, the complaint would have already reached the UN Secretary-General.
Kazinyan expressed confidence that revoking the company's license would harm Armenia's investment attractiveness, leading to an outflow of current and future investors who would avoid investing in the country's economy. The former head of ESA noted that this entire process began following the well- known statements by company owner Samvel Karapetyan. The main goal of the process is to force the businessman to negotiate the future of the network. "However, as Karapetyan stated, he will not accept any deal in exchange for not having his companies taken away from him," Kazinyan added.
As a reminder, Electric Networks of Armenia is part of the Tashir Group of Companies, which belongs to Samvel Karapetyan. Karapetyan is currently under arrest in connection with a criminal case related to calls for a coup. Karapetyan denies these charges, calling the authorities' actions persecution and part of a campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church.
