ArmInfo. Each new partner, each new axis of interaction, each new diplomatic platform adds stability, flexibility, and effectiveness to the country. This is how the logic of the "+1" policy is formed, as stated by Armen Gevorgyan, member of the National Assembly from the opposition "Armenia" faction and former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, in his article.
In this context, the politician believes, the Arab world is very important for Armenia. "First of all, it is important to emphasize an obvious, but almost always ignored difference: relations with the Arab world are not the same as relations with the entire Islamic world. Arab civilization, the Turkic geopolitical project and the Iranian sphere of influence are three different poles. Today, in the context of a rapidly changing region, the issue of the new content of Armenian-Arab relations requires a completely different approach. Not tactical, but conceptual, not narrowly political, but civilizational. The Arab world is a territory of competing states, complex elites, economic strategies, cultural traditions and accumulated political wisdom. The Armenian-Arab perspective contains something that cannot be artificially created: the Armenian communities in Beirut, Damascus, Baghdad, and Jerusalem. Arab states have provided Armenians with the opportunity to preserve their faith, language and history, a fact that has not been forgotten. Armenians have become part of the Arab world, its cultural, social and intellectual structure. Today, when a new geopolitical map of our region is being formed, Armenia's relations with the Arab world is acquiring such significance," the former Deputy Prime Minister noted.
He added that the Arab world is capable of strengthening Armenia's foreign policy independence, providing new economic opportunities, paving the way for modern technologies and investments, expanding security space, and creating additional channels of international support. For relations with the Arab world to become a strategic direction, Armenia, as Armen Gevorgyan noted, must offer not only friendship but also essence. "Armenia as the defender of the Christian heritage in the Middle East. This is not a slogan. It is a historical mission. Armenia is the only Christian country in the region that has maintained living ties with the Christian communities of the Levant, the only one perceived as the natural protector of these communities. Christians in the region are extremely vulnerable today. Armenia must speak out louder than others. This is not interference, but a continuation of our memory. And everyone in the Arab world understands this," the politician emphasized.
