At the 16th Meeting of the High Contracting Parties to the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, the 136 States Parties to the Convention unanimously adopted a resolution, "Strengthening the Protection and Restoration of Cultural Heritage through the Use of New and Emerging Technologies," sponsored by Armenia.
According to the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event took place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The resolution emphasizes the importance of using new and emerging technologies to preserve, protect, document, and monitor cultural heritage during conflicts and in the post- conflict period.
The document calls on UNESCO to promote international cooperation aimed at the widespread use of these technologies in the field of cultural heritage protection and emphasizes the need to strengthen institutional and expert capacity. The resolution aims to strengthen UNESCO's toolkit by combining law, advanced technology, creativity, and cooperation to protect, preserve, and restore cultural heritage.
This initiative reaffirms Armenia's commitment to protecting cultural heritage and advancing UNESCO's goals, as well as the 1954 Hague Convention.
