Union of Armenians of Russia congratulates Mikhail Piotrovsky on 81st  birthday anniversary

ArmInfo. The Union of Armenians of Russia congratulated Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum, on his birthday.

The SAR publication states, in part: "Today, our outstanding  compatriot Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky celebrates his 81st  birthday. He was born in Yerevan to archaeologists Hripsime  Djanpoladyan and longtime Hermitage Museum director, Academician  Boris Piotrovsky.

Piotrovsky's professional life is remarkably intertwined with Russia  and Armenia. Raised in a family of scholars of ancient Urartu, he  maintained a lifelong interest in Armenian heritage.

Today, under his leadership, the Hermitage remains not only one of  the world's most important cultural centers, but also a custodian of  Armenia's ancient history. There are places where history ceases to  be merely a science and becomes part of personal destiny.

For Mikhail Piotrovsky, such a place always remained Karmir-Blur-the  ancient city of Teishebaini, whose excavations brought fame to his  father, the eminent archaeologist Boris Piotrovsky. Decades later,  now director of the State Hermitage Museum, he once again ascended  these hills. - to the place where his father once revealed the  treasures of Urartu to the world. To the place where a scholarly  tradition was born that became an important chapter in global  Oriental studies.

He spoke of Karmir-Blur simply but profoundly: "This is the place  where our family history begins." And at that moment, past and  present seemed to converge: the father's work, the son's path, and  the Armenian land that carefully preserves the traces of great  civilizations.

This story reminds us that culture has the power to unite generations  and peoples, and Armenia remains a home not only by birth but also by  heart. Mikhail Piotrovsky is an honorary citizen of the capital of  Armenia, Yerevan, the city where he was born.
