Road to Upper Lars checkpoint is closed for all vehicles

ArmInfo.The RA Ministry of Internal Affairs' Rescue Service reports that, as of the morning of January 12, roads across Armenia are closed to traffic.

In particular, the source notes that the roads leading from the  Amberd high-mountain weather station in the Aragatsotn region to the  Amberd Fortress and Lake Kari are closed. The Vardenyats Pass is  closed to trucks with trailers due to a snowstorm. The Ttuzhur-Navur  highway is impassable for all vehicles, and a snowstorm is also  raging there.

Blizzard conditions are also observed on roads in Aparan. Icy  conditions are observed in places in Aragats, Sevan, Chambarak,  Martuni, Gavar, Hrazdan, Sisian, Ashotsk, and Amasia.

According to information received from the Georgian Department of  Emergency Situations and the North Ossetian branch of the Russian  Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Stepantsminda-Lars highway is  closed to all traffic.

As a reminder, the road to the Upper Lars checkpoint is the only land  route connecting Armenia with the Russian Federation via Georgia.
