Dynastic Azerbaijan Strengthens the Pyramid of Power

ArmInfo. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev published photographs from the World Economic Forum in Davos, in which he participates in meetings with his son, Heydar Aliyev Jr., who does not hold official government positions. This was reported by international media.

According to photos posted on the president's official social media accounts, the 28-year-old son accompanied Aliyev to several negotiations and discussions on the sidelines of the forum. Specifically, he attended meetings with representatives of the Danish Carlsberg Group, the Dubai port operator DP World, and discussions on investment and energy.

The presidential administration did not specify what role, if any, the younger Aliyev played during these meetings. Published materials also indicate that the president was accompanied to Davos by his wife, Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva.

For years, critics of the Azerbaijani authorities have pointed to a blurring of the line between state affairs and family influence. Official Baku consistently denies these accusations.
