ArmInfo. US Vice President Jay Vance's regional visit to Armenia will be a key milestone in advancing American geopolitical interests in the South Caucasus, according to Americanist Suren Sargsyan.
According to him, this is a natural regional geopolitical competition, in which the United States currently has the advantage.
"It should be noted that this advantage is also achieved at the expense of the interests of the weakest link in the region, which is a bitter, but true manifestation of realpolitik. However, I do not see this as a victory for the Trump administration alone, as similar scenarios have developed over the course of every American administration since 1991 and have been implemented in stages," the expert wrote on his Facebook page. At the same time, he assessed that the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project currently still provides the United States with a business presence in the South Caucasus, but has the potential to transform this business presence into an American strategic presence, something that has never existed before.
"Incidentally, the decision not to strike Iran (at least until now) was also influenced by the fact that such a move could negatively impact the implementation of TRIPP or its timeline," the expert concluded.
US President Donald Trump previously announced Vance's visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan in early February. Western-oriented politicians note that Vance's visit to Armenia will take place on February 9, but there is no official confirmation of this date yet.
