ArmInfo. Legislative changes that would require Armenian citizenship for political party leaders are not currently being considered, as stated by the RA Justice Minister, Srbuhi Galyan, during a government session on February 11.
According to her, the focus of the work on drafting the new constitution, is only on the existing citizenship requirements. The Minister emphasized the importance of applying the official Armenian citizenship requirement to individuals holding high-ranking government positions. This is necessary to ensure that only eligible individuals hold such positions.
Regarding extending this provision to parties, Galyan noted that international experience on this issue has not yet been studied, but the possibility remains. The Minister pointed out that qualifications are not mandatory for ordinary members of political parties, but a decision regarding the leadership of these parties will be made after the relevant research.
