ArmInfo. The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has not yet decided whether to participate in the June 7, 2026, parliamentary elections, as stated by Serzh Sargsyan, the third president of the Republic of Armenia, to reporters after a court hearing on February 26.
Sargsyan confirmed that representatives of some political forces had met with him following his proposal for pre-election talks, but he did not specify which forces were involved. He highlighted the complexity of the decision-making process, stating that while it may seem simple to decide whether to participate or not, there are deeper considerations at play. He emphasized the dilemma of either fighting for several mandates or creating much more favorable conditions by minimizing opposition struggle, thereby ensuring success for forces aiming for victory.
Referring to the remote squabbles between members of the teams of the second and third presidents of the Republic of Armenia, which have intensified recently, he said, "I think the waters are getting clearer. We have no problem with that. Anyone who tries to score points by discrediting us in order to undermine our chances, will be told the truth. If they try to falsely accuse others, they will hear the truth. We have no complexes," the former president stated.
Sargsyan is confident that the RPA will secure a spot in parliament if it decides to participate in the elections. "Based on our past forecasts, which accurately predicted the results of the 2021 elections in Gyumri, and even the unprecedented turnout in Gyumru and Echmiadzin, we have a good chance. However, there are other factors that I cannot discuss publicly," the former head of the Republic of Armenia said, noting that the party will announce its decision after all these circumstances are clarified. "This will happen before the end of next month or early April, during the party congress,," Serzh Sargsyan concluded.
