ArmInfo.Iran's retaliatory measures to US-Israeli aggression are not directed against neighboring countries, as stated by Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami at a press conference in Yerevan on March 2.
The diplomat noted that the attack against Iran at a time when official Tehran was demonstrating maximum will to achieve results in the negotiations with the United States. "The attack by the US and the Zionist regime occurred at a time when Iran had submitted its prompt, precise, and fully feasible proposals to the United States, and this was carried out in conditions where Tehran was demonstrating maximum goodwill in achieving results during the negotiations. We are very surprised that a system, a regime incapable of adhering to the principles of negotiations, has decided to enter the negotiating stage at all," Shirgholami said.
In this regard, the Iranian diplomat emphasized that Iran's retaliatory measures are not directed against neighboring countries, but against the American military bases located there. "The US, located thousands of miles away, decided to attack Iran, using its bases in neighboring countries. And as part of this aggression, Iran has a legitimate right to respond. We do not know how long this aggression will last, but the Iranian people will continue to exercise their right to self-defense, as granted to us by the UN Convention," the Iranian ambassador added. Shirgholami emphasized that the use of the territories of these countries is already an enemy action. "This is a war for our existence, as well as for Iran's existence or non-existence. Iran has no red lines against countries or forces that in any way facilitate aggression against Iran," the Iranian diplomat emphasized.
He noted that US President Donald Trump's advisers had warned him that this would be a difficult and costly war. And, as Shirgholami emphasized, now Trump himself is convinced of this. He also refuted claims by some circles that Israel attacked a girls' high school in Minab, Iran, because it was housing a military facility. He added that the Red Month office in Tehran, as well as a number of medical facilities and civilian facilities, were also attacked.
