ArmInfo. The Armenian Ministry of Health is remaining silent amid the health threat from toxic emissions from Iranian oil storage facilities bombed by the US and Israel. Anush Poghosyan, head of the Right to Health NGO, warned of this on her Facebook page.
She noted that Iran has already warned of the danger of "toxic rain" due to fires at oil storage facilities. In this regard, Poghosyan explained what "toxic rain" is. "Fires at oil storage facilities release sulfur compounds (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NO2), hydrocarbons, soot, and heavy metal particles into the atmosphere. These substances can mix with water in clouds, forming acidic compounds, and then fall to the ground as precipitation. This phenomenon is often referred to as acid rain or 'toxic rain,'" Poghosyan noted.
According to Poghosyan, under these conditions, the Armenian Ministry of Health should have assessed the health risks, protected the population from them, ensured the readiness of medical facilities, and provided clear and concise information to the public in a timely manner. "However, in Armenia, everything seems to be fine and quiet." "Ministry of Health of Armenia, at least tell me if there is a danger or if you simply don't have time to understand what's happening," the head of the organization concluded.
As a reminder, on the morning of February 28, the US and Israel attacked Iran. In response, Iran launched strikes against US bases in the Middle East. As a result of the US-Israeli aggression, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking Iranian military officials were killed. On March 8, the Iranian Council of Experts elected Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Seyed Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
