ArmInfo. The imprisonment of Samvel Karapetyan, Russian-Armenian businessman, head of the Tashir Group of Companies, which has lasted for over 260 days, has no legal basis. Robert Amsterdam, Samvel Karapetyan's international lawyer, wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the recent decision of the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals of Armenia to reject the appeal of Samvel Karapetyan's legal team and uphold his house arrest, once again confirms that this arrest is solely politically motivated.
"This detention, which has now lasted for over 260 days, has no legal basis. It is persecution carried out through the judicial system for publicly speaking out in defense of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin. By refusing to lift these absurd restrictions, the court is dealing yet another blow to the rule of law. We will continue to consistently present these violations to the international community until the persecution of Samvel Karapetyan and other political prisoners ceases and justice is restored," Amsterdam wrote.
