ArmInfo. Narek Karapetyan, a board member of the "Strong Armenia" party, has called for a radical technical upgrade to Armenia's border defenses. Speaking to reporters on March 25, Karapetyan proposed the installation of advanced electronic surveillance systems capable of monitoring adversary movements up to 25 km deep into their own territory.
According to him, such systems can provide warning signals to alert the main forces to deploy to defensive positions. Experts note that such steps could usher in the transition to "smart" borders. Karapetyan noted that, should the party win, it will begin negotiations to acquire such systems immediately after the elections.
