ArmInfo. The Russian President is not obligated to study the Constitution and laws of Armenia. Similarly, during a briefing on April 2, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan commented on Vladimir Putin's statement during a bilateral meeting regarding the possibility of pro-Russian political forces in Armenia participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections, in response to reporters' request.
Pashinyan noted that the Russian President was simply not informed of Armenia's legislative specifics, specifically that individuals or political forces holding passports other than Armenian citizenship are not allowed to participate in the elections.
"Considering the size of the country and the agenda the Russian President deals with on a daily basis, even if he wanted to, he cannot go into these details," Pashinyan said. In this vein, he noted that he often conveys information not obtained through personal research, but rather what was reported to him.
"And I think he simply wasn't informed of this nuance," the head of government admitted. Pashinyan also noted that, in addition to being responsible for his country's agenda, Vladimir Putin is also a key international actor.
It should be noted that during a bilateral meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Vladimir Putin on April 1 in Moscow, the latter expressed his position regarding the persecution of Russian businessman Samvel Karapetyan in Armenia and noted that he would like pro-Russian political forces in Armenia to have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections. "I'll be completely frank, we always speak honestly and directly, but we'd like all these political parties to be able to participate in domestic political work during the elections. Some of them are in prison, despite holding Russian passports. That's your decision; we won't interfere. But we'd like them all to be able to participate in domestic political work," Putin noted.
