ArmInfo. In his video address at the 8th ENP summit in Yerevan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev accused the European Parliament of bias and boasted about the de-Armenization of Artsakh.
In his opening remarks, Aliyev noted that he had agreed on the online format of his participation in the Yerevan summit with European Council President Antonio Costa several months ago. The Azerbaijani President added that he had invited Baku to host the next ENP summit in 2028, emphasizing that Armenia had also supported his initiative.
"My participation in the summit clearly demonstrates that peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a reality. We have had peace for over nine months now, and we are learning to live in peace," Aliyev said, once again recalling the initialing of the US-brokered peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8, 2025.
Aliyev reiterated that peace with Armenia is a reality for Azerbaijan. To support his assertion, he recalled that last November, Azerbaijan lifted transit restrictions for Armenian cargo through Azerbaijani territory. He noted that several thousand tons of cargo have been delivered to Armenia through Azerbaijan, and several thousand tons of petroleum products have been exported. He emphasized that all this provides a solid foundation for establishing trade and economic ties between the two countries. "Another foundation for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is connectivity. And the 'Trump Road' will become a reality," Aliyev said.
The Azerbaijani President then praised the European Commission for its position on the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process and criticized the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). He recalled that Azerbaijan has been a full member of the Council of Europe since January 2001 and emphasized that the Azerbaijani delegation had never been subject to any restrictions in this structure until 2024.
"In September 2023, Azerbaijan put an end to separatism in Karabakh. We implemented four UN Security Council resolutions that had remained on paper for over 30 years. Four months later, PACE imposed sanctions against our delegation," Aliyev stated, adding that such actions by PACE had since become commonplace.
He accused PACE and the European Parliament of applying double standards, calling this unacceptable. He asserted that such actions by European parliamentarians allegedly sabotage the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. "From 2021 to this day, the European Parliament has adopted 14 resolutions that contain highly offensive lies about Azerbaijan. 14 resolutions in five years," Aliyev said.
He then criticized the European Parliament's adoption of a resolution on April 30, which, among other things, demands the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners held in Baku. In this regard, Aliyev noted that on April 1, his country decided to suspend cooperation with the European Parliament, the activities of the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, and its work at Euronest. In conclusion, he reiterated his support for the peace process with Armenia.
