ArmInfo. One of the campaign promises of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), led by the first president of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, is the construction of a railway station near the Tatev Monastery Complex. This was anounced by Levon Zurabyan, the ANC candidate for Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, on his Facebook page.
According to him, this station could play an important role in the country's economy. First and foremost, it would relieve congestion on roads heavily used by freight trucks, which often leave them nearly impassable. The railway's operation will significantly improve th eenvironmental situation in the region, while contributing to the rapid development of the tourism.
Zurabyan noted that the ANC campaign group is currently located at the Tatev Revival cable car, which was built through the efforts of philanthropist Ruben Vardanyan. Vardanyan, he claimed, is being tortured in a Baku prison due to the inaction of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who, according to Zurabyan, has shown no desire to secure the release of Armenian prisoners held by Azerbaijan.
"Pashinyan doesn't want Ruben Vardanyan to become a key player in the parliamentary elections on June 7, 2026. Not only has he failed to facilitate the release of Ruben Vardanyan and the military-political leadership of Artsakh, but his entire behavior demonstrates that he is interested in their continued imprisonment in Azerbaijan. Netherless, on June 7, the people of Armenia will express their opinion of Nikol Pashinyan’s regime for this and many other reasons,” Zurabyan stated.
He called US President Donald Trump's record of support for Nikol Pashinyan's regime disgraceful, claiming that such support is motivated by favorable conditions for American companies seeking to transport oil and mineral resources from Central Asia to the United States through the TRIPP project.
"Where is democracy then? After all, democracy is the ability of the people to determine their own destiny without interference from third countries. Today, Trump, Macron, and others, by declaring support for Nikol Pashinyan, are effectively imposing their will on the Armenian people while ignoring basic democratic norms,” the Armenian politician said. At the same time, Zurabyan expressed gratitude to Trump for what he called his honesty, arguing that the West supports Pashinyan solely to advance its geopolitical interests and help American oil companies secure enormous profits.
"As a result, it seems that Pashinyan has made a deal with the West to maintain his power and turn Armenia into a Western puppet state. Azerbaijan will undoubtedly take advantage of this, setting all its conditions, including demographics, importing Azerbaijani authoritarianism to Armenia, and restrictions on freedom of speech and democracy. In any case, even if the TRIPP project is implemented, Armenia will become a mere appendage for foreign companies," Levon Zurabyan concluded.
