ArmInfo.Gegham Manukyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction of the Armenia bloc, promised to publicly disclose classified information on the handover of the Goris-Kapan road to Azerbaijan.
"Under threat of criminal liability, tomorrow I will publish a document confirming the handover of the Goris-Kapan road. The Ministry of Defense kept it secret. Anna Grigoryan and I spent a year trying to obtain a copy of this document through investigations. We finally got it. Expect details. I'll be in Tavush tomorrow," the MP wrote on his Facebook page.
It is worth noting that in early November 2021, the government of Armenia, without any explanation, handed over 21 km of the Goris-Kapan interstate highway to the control of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. The Azerbaijani side established checkpoints along these sections and blocked traffic, resulting in the blockade of several Armenian villages.
On June 1, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan stated during a debate on Public Television of Armenia that the Armenian authorities surrendered the Goris-Kapan road of their own free will, asserting that it was the desire of the Armenian authorities, not Azerbaijan. Thus, the Armenian parliamentarian admitted to squandering the country's territories to appease Azerbaijan.
