


ArmInfo. Gagik Grigoryevich Stamboltsyan, former Minister of Health of Armenia, former Member of Parliament, prominent plastic surgeon, and founder and CEO of the "Avangard Med" Medical Center, has passed away at the age of 70. This was announced by the Armenian Medical Association via their official Facebook page.
According to the Association, Mr. Stamboltsyan passed away on June 28, 2026. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia reported that Mr. Stamboltsyan's body was discovered inside his vehicle in the Ararat region. Preliminary findings indicate that he suffered a cardiac arrest while driving, which subsequently led to a traffic accident.
Over the years of professional activity, Stamboltsyan has held a number of key positions in the Armenian healthcare system. He served as the Minister of Health from 1997 to 1998. At various points in his career, he held the positions of Executive Director of the "St. Nerses the Great" Medical Center and Director of the "Kanaker-Zeytun" Medical Center. Additionally, he served as a member of the National Assembly and as Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Health Care, and Environmental Protection.
In 2012, Stambolyan founded the Avangard Medical Center, and a year later he organized the IV International Congress on Technological Innovation in Plastic Surgery. He also took an active part in the activities of the Armenian Medical Association and the Union of Armenian Doctors.
For his contribution to the development of national healthcare and plastic surgery, Stamboltsyan was awarded the gold medal of the Yerevan State Medical University and the Frifotjof Nansen medal.
