UNEP ready to assist Armenia in organizing and hosting COP17

ArmInfo. Armenia's Deputy Minister of Environment, Aram Meymaryan, held a working meeting with representatives from the Ecosystems Division of the  United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi.

The parties discussed current and prospective expert and technical  support provided by UNEP for the preparation and organization of the  17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on  Biological Diversity (CBD). Specifically, discussions focused on  ongoing assistance programs, processes planned during Armenia's  upcoming presidency, youth and private sector engagement, and  potential support for organizing a thematic "Mountains and Freshwater  Ecosystems Day" event.

The participants also addressed the implementation of the  Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the development and  execution of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan  (NBSAP), national reporting, synergies within Global Environment  Facility programs, and cooperation prospects through the Global  Biodiversity Framework Fund.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the  importance of maintaining close collaboration with UNEP leading up to  COP17 scheduled to take place in Yerevan this October to establish  concrete support mechanisms and joint initiatives aligned with  national priorities.
