ArmInfo. On the morning of November 4, officers from the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia again detained the leader of the opposition party "Strong Armenia" and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan.
The NSS officers' actions were preceded by large-scale searches simultaneously at 65 addresses associated with Samvel Karapetyan, his nephew, the head of the parliamentary faction "Strong Armenia." Narek Karapetyan and other family members.
Following the search, NSS officers escorted Samvel Karapetyan out of the house through the back door and took him away in an unknown direction.
The search and arrest were part of a new criminal case being investigated by the Main Department for the Investigation of Economic Crimes and Smuggling of the Investigative Committee.
Karapetyan had previously been under investigation, and house arrest was the measure of restraint. The businessman was accused of publicly calling for the seizure of power and violating the country's territorial integrity. The criminal case was opened in June 2025.
Representatives of the Strong Armenia party attribute the new investigative actions to political pressure and the opposition's tough stance on the planned constitutional referendum in Armenia.
