Opinion: Authorities` attacks against Church and  Catholic are  long-running topic aimed at distracting attention from crucial issues   in Armenia

ArmInfo. The current government's attacks  on the Armenian Apostolic Church, led by  Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, are a long-running topic  intended to distract society's attention from crucial issues in  Armenia, according to political scientist Stepan Danielyan.

"A mentally ill person cannot do anything to the Catholicos. He can  only attempt to discredit him. In my understanding, the topic of the  Catholicos and the Church is a long-running record," the political  scientist wrote on his Facebook page.

Danielyan believes that the Church  is a sensitive topic for Armenian  society.He thinks that the current Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol  Pashinyan will use it in the upcoming months to divert attention from  other critical issues in the country. "If it weren't for the Church  issue, what else would we be discussing now? May be the speech of the  leader of an enemy country, his humiliation of a madman, the failed  adventure with the transfer of Syunik to the Americans, which, in his  opinion, was the lesser of two evils, or the Syunik issue as an  opportunity to gain time through such new discussions. In short, the  Church issue will continue for a long time," Danielyan concluded.
