ArmInfo. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that Iran did not strike Azerbaijan.
"We do not target neighboring countries. Iran's policy is to strike only the military bases of its adversaries, including the US and Zionist regimes, that operate in the region and are used to attack Iranian civilians," the Iranian diplomat said in an interview with Azerbaijan's AnewZ.
He emphasized that Iran has stated from the beginning that if there are any military bases in the region and they are used to attack Iran, they will be targeted. "This is our policy," Gharibabadi stated.
It should be noted that hours earlier, Azerbaijan accused Iran of attacking Nakhchivan Airport. In response, Iran's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mujtaba Darmichilu, was summoned to the country's Foreign Ministry and presented with a formal note of protest. The Iranian diplomat was informed that Azerbaijan reserves the right to take appropriate retaliatory measures.
Earlier, Azerbaijani media reported that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces had been placed on combat alert due to military operations around Iran.
